More performance and greater efficiency coupled with optimum security—thanks to NX and Teamcenter

Founded in 1780 as a blacksmith's shop, the seventh generation of Lemken is now one of the leading international specialist suppliers of agricultural equipment for soil cultivation, sowing, and crop care. Customized solutions for a wide range of farm sizes, soils, markets, and requirements are all part of Lemken's portfolio, which generated sales of €380 million in 2018. Represented in 49 countries worldwide, 1,600 employees at 5 production and assembly sites develop, manufacture, and sell plows, cultivators, seed drills, and other high-performance, versatile, and high-quality technology for professional crop cultivation.

Lemken's vision:

Profitable farm management, interaction between farmers, retailers, and manufacturers as the basis for mutual success, and a sustainable supply of food to the world through efficient technology—this is what makes Lemken the Agrovision Company, one of Europe's leading companies in the sector.

To develop and design the special machines, the company’s choice fell on the CAD system NX, which enables an optimized and accelerated product development process. NX for Design is the sector's leading product development software in terms of performance, flexibility, and innovation. For product data management, the company relies on the modern, adaptable product lifecycle management system Teamcenter as a central source of information for product and process knowledge. Since 2001, Lemken has relied on MAIT as an experienced partner for end-to-end digitalization of product development processes to implement these two Siemens Digital Industries Software solutions and provide service and support for the 50 NX CAD workstations and 243 Teamcenter workstations.

The decisive factor behind the use of new solutions and technologies was that the CAD/PDM systems previously used at Lemken were having an increasingly business-critical impact. Connecting production-related areas to the Teamcenter environment and constant availability of the information systems meant that the entire system had to be updated and a highly available IT architecture provided. Parts of the existing IT system landscape no longer met the increased availability requirements and had to be replaced.

"I can't stress enough how dedicated the MAIT colleagues were. The latest update also went live on schedule and the systems were up and running quickly. Performance has improved significantly, especially with 4 Tier!"
Manuel Klaas

Head of Development IT at Lemken GmbH & Co. KG

The required availability of the PLM environment was achieved with a Windows cluster concept. Oracle database software was installed on two out of three cluster nodes.

If the primary node fails, the otherwise inactive second node of the cluster takes over all the functions. The license server used for the Teamcenter environment was installed on the three-node cluster. This guarantees high system availability.
To cover all possible security aspects of the revised IT system landscape, the backup and recovery concept had to be adapted. The Teamcenter environment was first brought up to date in order to identify possible sources of error as quickly as possible during the update.

"I can't stress enough how dedicated the MAIT colleagues were. The latest update also went live on schedule and the systems were up and running quickly. Performance has improved significantly, especially with 4 Tier!" says Manuel Klaas, Head of Development IT at Lemken GmbH & Co. KG

To keep everything running smoothly and reliably in the future, Lemken is drawing on MAIT's ongoing service and support—including regular updates, training, and workshops on special tools and applications.
